OLTD Program Outcome Addressed:
The act of creating this summary of learning assisted me in two ways – it allowed me to experience a tool that I had never used before, and it caused me to consider all of the learning I have engaged in over the six weeks of the course. I intend to utilize PowToon on a much more regular basis as it is truly an engaging communication tool that was easy for me to use. The entire course, being about sharing and open resources, certainly gave me some perspective about what resources there are for online and blended teaching. The act of creating this summary of learning and thus the requirement to consider the course content will help me to transfer this information to my own classes. I intend to ensure that my students fully understand the impact of their online activities with respect to copyright, open access and what is and is not available for the taking.
It is incredibly important that we as educators consider what resources we utilize in our classes. By ensuring that we only use what we are legally allowed to we are engaging in an important aspect of digital citizenship and civility. Furthermore, the opportunity to develop resources and allow others to use them through creative commons will certainly cause my students to be more prolific in their demonstration of knowledge. By knowing that others will be able to utilize their work, and give them credit, I am hoping that the quality of the work itself will improve. This act of taking material that is already freely available and then personalizing it is an important consideration in the overall planning of lessons and programs. I will take the ideas around personalization and modifications of CC works and hopefully utilize it in my own classes.
- Become familiar with common terms, definitions and elements related to online environments
- Consider responsibility, accountability and civility in online environments
- Examine current research around best practices and emerging practices
