OLTD Program Outcomes Addressed:
This piece of evidence is the capstone project at the end of OLTD503. The paper created outlined my overall learning throughout the course and how this learning will future impact my teaching and participation in online courses. This paper was one of the first that utilized full APA style which provided for an excellent opportunity to learn the process of writing an academic paper.
The experience of writing this paper was invaluable for me as it allowed me to build on the skills I had already gained through the work I did in OLTD502 on my central inquiry question. Going through the act of reading, annotating, condensing and commenting on academic literature was excellent and I am confident that it will continue to assist me as I go through the OLTD program. The analysis of a number of important topics throughout the course was also invaluable as I was able to consider and reflect on how I intend to utilize this knowledge in my own blended classes. Finally, while this evidence was more based on the behaviourist theories in that the capacity for my own learning was based on my own abilities to look at and consider the information I was presented, the course itself was constructivist in nature and the actual content for the paper came from many of my own experiences throughout the course.
Once again, the process of reading and evaluating academic literature was incredibly important to my own development as a student and potential masters candidate. The note taking and organizational skills required to properly construct this paper will serve me well in future courses where readings and synthesis will be required. I was also forced to consider the length of my writing and how to best convey my thoughts within a specific word count. All of these experiences caused the paper to be a valuable experience and overall piece of evidence outlining my experiences in OLTD503.
- Become familiar with common terms, definitions and elements related to online environments
- Critically assess and evaluate resources for best practice in online learning
- Integrate current cognitive learning and brain-based learning theory
- Examine current research around best practices and emerging practices
