I've always enjoyed working with children and students. From an early age I was "teaching" my classmates various concepts, and in later years, working with younger children in a volunteer or paid capacity. I attended Carleton University for my Bachelor of Engineering because, in Ontario, you need a degree in "something" in order to become a teacher. Thus, I enjoyed the mathematics and science components of my engineering degree as well as the design and creation aspect. Following my engineering degree I attended the University of Ottawa for my bachelor of Education.
Working in my first couple of jobs really opened a lot of doors for me. I got a good sense of how to manage a classroom and create learning experiences that are worthwhile for students. I also learned the valuable art of working collaboratively with colleagues and parents in order to better educate my students.
I’ve come to the OLTD program because I feel that a blended learning approach, integrating some of the online aspects as well as some face-to-face aspects, will fit nicely in classrooms of the future. I feel that distributed learning will enhance the opportunities for students in classrooms to better understand content and demonstrate knowledge.
I'm intending to remain in the independent school system and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
