OLTD Learning Outcome Addressed:
As a capstone project for this course, designing this module allowed me to utilize all of the skills and knowledge I gained throughout the course. I was able to select appropriate tools based on the rubric that I designed earlier in the course, and then utilize these cloud tools to achieve appropriate educational goals. I took a blended approach to the design of this lesson – it was part constructivist, part direct instruction, and I’m pleased with the results. By creating this module it has provided me with yet another resource that I could use within a mathematics classroom or a unit that I could share with other colleagues during a professional development session.
As I have said throughout the program, being able to plan and execute an online lesson or unit is a valuable skill that all online and blended teachers need to develop. Attaching this lesson or unit to a cognitive theory or pedagogical approach makes it all the more powerful as a learning tool because of the research behind the theory utilized. Finally, the actual act of constructing this within Canvas provided me with yet another opportunity to develop my course-creation skills.
- Demonstrate basic competency with design and implementation within a variety of online learning environments and tools
- Plan learning opportunities most suitable to the strengths and challenges of a variety of environments
- Develop and design intentional learning activities suitable for the appropriate environment and the learner
- Integrate current cognitive learning and brain-based learning theory
- Develop practical and technical skills in all phases of concept, development, design, implementation, etc.
