My name is Graeme Campbell and I’m a teaching in Mill Bay at a medium-sized independent school. I work at Brentwood College School which is a co-ed 8-12 boarding and day school. I teach mathematics 9-12, competitive robotics and engineering. It’s a lovely environment with a very supportive staff and students.
I was born in Vancouver and lived in Sooke for 12 years before moving out to Ottawa. I finished my high schooling in Ottawa and went to Carleton University for my Bachelors of Computer Systems Engineering. I immediately went into the teaching program at the University of Ottawa and did practicums in a grade 5/6 and 7/8 class.
My first job was at a small independent school on Bowen Island called Island Pacific School where I stayed for two years. I then moved to Alberta for a year to teach in Cold Lake at a Metis school before moving back to BC to work at Queen Margaret's School. After learning from the excellent faculty and staff at QMS for three years I have moved to Brentwood College School to expand my own teaching experiences.
I’m very active in social media - I use Twitter for excellent PD (@GraemeCampbell) and have a personal blog which is once-in-a-while updated - learnteachlead.blogspot.com. I see great value in using social media in conjunction with online learning and would like to continue exploring these possible connections.
I see great value in the “future” versions of online learning. I am looking forward to seeing how future Web 3.0 tools can be used to create true online communities around a single topic, much like online communities have formed organically around any number of topics of interest throughout the internet. Indeed, I am part of a number of “online learning communities” that aren’t called that - teacher blogs, Twitter, Google+, etc. I suspect as we create a definition of “online learning” we will discover that there are a number of areas where this is already occurring in our everyday professional and personal lives.
I'm an engaged and interested teacher and learner who can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
