David Sufrin currently teaches EDUC 202 (Teaching: Making an Informed Decision) as a face-to-face course with students only at the Vancouver Island University Duncan Campus. I will be working with David to turn his course into one that can be offered in both a face-to-face setting and in an online setting for any VIU student from a variety of campuses, or their own homes, to participate in. This course will be primarily delivered synchronously, however, at least two of the lessons will be completely asynchronous for students to complete during their weekly class time.
This project will require me to utilize the learning and resources I have gained throughout the OLTD program in order to create learning activities that can be complete by students within a classroom setting but also be simultaneously completed by students using Collaborate and video conferencing technology available at VIU campuses. A variety of tools will be utilized in order to create content that is engaging and interactive while still meeting the overall content, pacing and delivery requirements that David has in his course outline and documents.
The successful completion of this project will require initial meetings with David in order to understand how he has laid out his course and the general direction he is comfortable with taking if it is to be made into a more blended experience. This will be followed by the actual creation of the learning materials, resources and course homepage. The course will be tested and reviewed by my OLTD colleagues as well as other members of my current professional learning community. Finally, David will be trained to implement the various resources created in order to successfully deliver the course in January of 2016.
